Like the title says, Spark’s new 10-track precursor to his LP, “Da Lone Star Kid”, was released on iTunes yesterday. I had a chance to listen to it and thought it was awesome. Obviously since it’s the “pre-album”, he didn’t want to give away ALL his goodies, but he blessed the loyalists with some all original jams that just REEK of Texas goodness. I’ve been a fan of his since Scarface signed Green City and they started putting on for Killeen, a medium-sized town in between Austin and Waco. Hip hops fans have heard his buzz for a while now. I can attest to that since I’ve been jamming his mixtapes since a homie of mine put me onto him over a year ago.

Anyways, now that we got past all the usual stuff, let’s get to the EP.

Higlight Tracks
“Hey Girl”: Takes nuts to take on a beat like that! Flexed on it though and this is a surefire club jam. Has a new age feel to it that I dig.

“Let’s Get It”: JAMS! This one pounds, man. Good riding music. “Everytime I kill a track my lawyer get me acquitted.”

“All On Me”: Lots of dope features on this song. Tum-Tum, Fat Pimp, Big Hood Boss, and Supastar. Definitely jams and is some more good TX ridin’ music.

“Jamaican Kush”: Song is THE SHIT! Uses a different accent which shows his versatility. Beat is nasty, nasty, nasty. Love this song. Probably my favorite on the EP.

“Hustle Hard”: Gotta have a jam for the hustlers. This is your “wake up in the morning, bang this song, and you wanna get it throughout the day” jam. Beat is sick.

“Open Letter 2 God”: He opens up his heart on this one. That’s real. Not a lot of people can pull it off successfully, but he managed to do so on this one. Speaks on a lot of things we’re all worried about like the recession, gas prices, and the everyday BS that plagues us all.

Overall
I liked it. This is a dude who has a TON of potential and should blow up on the major scene sometime soon. He’s got what A&Rs look for in young talent. A lot of swag, good sound, and a real ear for music. You can tell through the top notch production he chose. Overall, this is a very, very good effort.

4.5/5
